Krasnodar is the capital of Krasnodar region. It is located in the south of Russia and is a city of two seas - the Black sea and the Asov Sea. The territory of Krasnodar is 683 square km. it is the largest cultural, economic and scientific center in the south of Russia. There are a lot of research institutions, which are occupied mainly with agriculture. Great amount of scientists examine numerous oilfields and gas deposits.

In 2002 Krasnodar was considered to be the best city in Russia.
In 2003 Krasnodar celebrated its 210 anniversary.

History

In 1793 Krasnodar was founded by Cossacks. It was first known as a small fortress called Eckaterinodar, but now Gorky Park has been built in it's place. There, one can see the ancient oak, which is as old as the city itself.

Till 1920 the name of the city was Eckaterinodar in honor of Russian tsarina Katherine the Second who presented Krasnodar region to the Cossack army. In 1920 the city was given new name Krasnodar as a token of gratitude to the Red Army.

Krasnodar is the capital of the region. From time immemorial it attracts numerous guests. Many famous people visited the city: poets Pushkin and Maiakovsky, writers Gorky and Yspensky.

In addition Krasnodar is the city of students. They come here from all over the world.

The largest and one of the oldest higher education institutions in the Krasnodar region is Kuban State University. Founded in 1924, it has trained thousands of high-qualified specialists and researchers, as well as school teachers, who possess the latest teaching techniques. KubSU is cooperating with colleges and universities of the USA, England, France, Germany, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Korea, Vietnam, Jordan and other countries. Its graduates work in over 50 countries of the world, best students study at the colleges and universities of the USA, England, France, Germany, Greece, China and other countries.

One can see interesting sport competitions which take place on the Krasnodar stadiums, in the sport complex Olympic. Krasnodar is famous for its Olympic champions and prize-winners.

The city is surrounded by fruit gardens, vineyards and vegetable plantations. Near Krasnodar the largest in the south of Russia reservoir is located. It was built in 1973 to irrigate and to control floods. Its total area is 400 square km. Krasnodar reservoir is very popular rest place among the residents and guests of the city.

Krasnodar is beautiful at any time of year. It grows before everybody's eyes: new microdistrcts, parks and schools are being erected. But still the main and the most picturesque street is Krasnaya Street. Even in the time of July heat, when the asphalt fuses, people hide here in the fragrant coolness of trees. Krasnaya is always full of people. They dress in their best cloths and come here to amuse themselves and just to have rest. Apart from numerous restaurants, cafes, shops and different entertaining centers the street have a lot of historic monuments.

For example, the circuit court was built in 1896 but it took the modern form only after the Perestroika. Now it is the office block of Krasnodar Legislative Assembly.

Pushkin library of nowadays has a great history. 1801 a wooden Armenian church was build on its place. It stood for 70 years, then the church was pulled down and an Armenian college was built. In Soviet times the authorities decided to place there Pushkin library, which moved in the building after the reconstruction in 1956.

In Krasnodar there are many places to visit such as museums, theaters, concert halls etc.

Krasnodar music theatre is famous all over Russia; people from other regions of our country come here to enjoy masterly acting of Kuban actors. Krasnodar troupes give successful performances abroad.

Art Palace Premier is one of the most popular places in the city. It is the center of different festivals and international contests.

The citizens of Krasnodar are very jovial and energetic people, they like entertainments very much, that is why there are so many various entertaining centers here. Every one can find such a rest place that will be to one s liking.

Entertaining center Kvartal consists of 2 modern cinemas, night club, restaurant, cafes, and pizzeria.

Europe is the most fashionable place in Krasnodar which enjoys wide popularity among celebrities. Everything in this center is of high standard. The worshipers of eastern culture enjoy hookah, beautiful show - belly dances and delightful taste of oriental sweets in the Arabian Hall. There are also different restaurants, bars, casino and many other wonderful corners to have rest.

Kuban

Kuban is the main resort and sanitary complex of Russia. The black sea coast is famous for such great resort cities as Sochi, Anapa, Gelengic. Comfortable beaches, favorable subtropical climate, luxuriant vegetation, healing mud and mineral waters, warm Black Sea. What else needs a person to feel happy and satisfied?

Sochi is the resort of federal importance and is considered to be summer capital of Russia. Sochi is a park city, reserve city. More than 90 percent of the area consists of mountains; their height above sea level is about 3000 meters.

Sochi is the legend-city; there is a great many sightseeing there such as ethnographic museum, national park, Loos temple, arboretum, Winter theatre and many many others. It is just impossible to list them and useless too. One should see all this beauty with ones own eyes to appreciate the charm at its true value.

Holiday-makers have a lot of opportunities to entertain and to amuse themselves. Apart from numerous restaurants, clubs, cafes, parks and aqua parks there are a lot of fascinating tours and trips.

You think that Sochi is interesting to visit only in summer? You are mistaken. In winter Sochi is not less popular because of its mountain resort Krasnaya Polyana (Red Glade). The village is surrounded by picturesque mountains 3000 km. meters high. It is a unique place to ride horses and mountain bikes, to climb mountains, etc. The resort was selected by skiers long ago. General extension of routes is 20 km. of any complexity. Krasnaya Polyana is well-known among the lovers of virgin drive. True lovers of extreme drive can enjoy heli-ski, jeeping and ski tours. Having come there you will be settled in comfortable hotel with all conveniences, so you will be at your ease.
